Strictly Rock - Part III

Here we go again with the final volume of Strictly Rock, just a quickie this time round, but one with some quality tunes.

Highlights include -
Aretha Franklin's massive party mover 'Rock Steady', what a tune this is, as large as the legendary lady herself. As sampled by Public Enemy, E.P.M.D, Masters of Ceremony & many others. One of my all time fave drumbreaks.

German funksters Breakout redo the classic 'Planet Rock' with lovely jubbly results, drum heavy & dope.
Library legend Keith Mansfield gives us horns galore & fuzzy guitars with a nice little drumbreak on 'Jazz Rocker'.

'Hula Rock' by Lewis Howard is definitely an interesting tune, demented Hawaiian grooves with a chunky bassline. Sampled by Madlib on Madvillian's 'Meatgrinder'.
Breakbeat royalty are here ! It's The crew that gave us the national anthem 'Apache', Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band with the gigantic 'Bongo Rock', as sampled by everyone.
Ray Bryant's 'Up Above The Rock' is worth a listen or two, it starts with a fat drumbreak, then the familiar sample from the 'not as good as the other version version' of Kool G Rap & Polo's 'On The Run'.

The Blackbyrds have some awesome tunes in their discography, the block party rocker 'Rock Creek Park' is what you get here. Classic stuff.
Finally we have 'Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll' by Vaughan Mason & Crew from the essential LP of the same name. The back of the sleeve says "This album offers Funk, Ballads & Roller Skating music". What more could you ask for ?

Strictly Rock - Part II

a.k.a. Strictly Rockers

Shockout all nice & decent people.

Once again, your sound selector for this evening is the boy Flair with another super duper Strictly Rock.

This is part II & we all about the rockers.

A fine selection of tracks from a fine selection of artists.
Once again, this is large so it comes in two parts.

As usual, the Strictly Biz seal of approval means that this whole ish is lovely, but tracks to look for include -

The legendary Big Youth has plenty of tracks with 'Rock' in the title, but I went for the smooth 'Tippertong Rock'.
General Trees gives us a total headnodder with 'Walking Rocking'
Jacob Miller is lovely as he always was with 'Keep On Knocking', then at 2:50 the wicked U Brown comes in.

Jah Walton deserves a mention, firstly because his track here is simply titled 'Rock', secondly because it is dope. "Mi love mi cheese & biscuit"
'Live Rocket' by John Wayne is superb, as is everything else he recorded, a banger on a version of the Real Rock riddim.
Johnny Osbourne delivers a classic with 'Rock & Come On Ya', but things really kick off at four minutes in when the amazing Papa Tullo (a.k.a. Tullo T) joins us. Special stuff.

'Rock Steady Party' by Leroy Sibbles is another lovely joint, then deejay legend Nicodemus comes in with his Bonanza rhymes.
Lone Ranger's 'Sat Upon The Rock' is straight up dope, on the Cherry Oh Baby riddim, Ranger is without doubt one of the greatest of all time. Buy as much of his stuff you can find, trust me.
'Jubie Rock' is a another quality Michael Palmer track, lovely singer.

Pampidoo is as crazed as ever on the bouncy 'DJ With The Rock Stone Voice', he must get through a lot of strepsils !
A favourite of our own DJ Friendly, Ranking Dread gives us the fat 'Natty On The Rock', "A Too Dready".
Ranking Trevor makes two appearances here, firstly under the name Ranking Superstar with 'Lovers Rock', then with the classic 'Savalamar Rock'.

Another Deejay with legendary status, the incredible Ranking Toyan rocks it on 'Rock It Up'.
Shabba Ranks shouts out his musical friends on the massive digi banger 'Get Up Stand Up & Rock' on the Bye Bye Love riddim.
'Pegion Rock' by Sister Nancy is very nice indeed, unlike the spelling. Shout out to my girl Li-Li on this one.

The greatly missed Sugar Minott is here with the gigantic 'Dread A Me Idrin'.
Trinity follows on from Xanadu & Sweet Lady (on the first volume of Strictly rock) with the delightful 'Rockers Delight'.
Finally the fantastic Yellowman drops the gigantic 'Natty Sat Upon The Rock' over the same riddim as his classic 'Nobody Move'.

Strictly Rock - Part I

Yes party people, Strictly Business are back once again with the first installment of another one of our lovely compilations.

We present to you Strictly Rock.

This is the first chapter of what will be an ongoing series, the next two chapters are coming very soon, but for now here's the first volume.
There is a lot of joints here, so it comes in three parts.

Way to many tracks here for me to comment on 'em all, but Strictly Business suggest that you look out for -

Firstly, it wouldn't be right to not include Bam's timeless 'Planet Rock',
The superb Asher D & Daddy Freddy make yet another appearance on a Strictly Biz comp with 'Posse, Rock & Move'
Obviously the mighty Captain Rock had to be here, so he is, with the heavy 'House Of Rock'. Captain Rock for president !
Davy DMX's classic 'The DMX Will Rock' is here & rightfully so. Your boy Flair loves this shit.
'The Mighty Hard Rocker' by DJ Cash Money & Marvelous is a classic party rocker, so y'all need that.
The Funky 4 + 1 give us the classic Rapping & Rocking The House, with the amazing Sha-Rock & the amazingly named Keith Keith.
Ice (MuthaFuckin') T drops the amazing 'Body Rock'. (The first of three tracks here titled 'Body Rock'
LL soundalike (more of that to come soon) Jewel T comes off hard on 'Rock The Crossfade'
Another Strictly Biz fave, the Krown Rulers are in the hizouse with the double def 'Let The Party Rock'
The aforementioned LL Cool J says "rock" a lot, so I ended up going for the fat 'You'll Rock'
Louis Logic & crew give us a nice new school posse cut with the remix of the simply titled 'Rock'
Another soundalike (like i said, more on that later) MC Don & EZ Ed go all Eric B & Rakim on the smooth 'Party Rockers'
Representing the UK we have the dope Overlord X with 'Visa To Rock'
Ray Rock & K.C. with 'Rayrock Kick It' needs to be listened to, "MCs that bite by me get dissed".
The legendary Schoolly D tells us 'I Don't Like Rock & Roll', then strangely went off & done that wack stuff with a band. Poor old confused Schoolly School.
Without doubt, the crew called Strickly Business (not us) need a mention here, probably because they say the immortal words "Strictly Business" a few times.
One of the best named crews ever, The Mighty B-Force feat Hand Master Flash (yes ! Hand!!) are here with 'We Got You Rockin' It'
Thirstin Howl III kind of follows on from Davy DMX (i said kind of) with a dope Galt MacDermot loop on 'Brooklyn Hard Rock'
Body Rock (again) by the Treacherous Three had to be here, but then you really should have it (& know all the words). If not, what on earth are you playing at ?
And finally Xanadu & Sweet Lady over a reggae version of 'Good Times' on 'Rocker's Choice'.

Plus you know that all the other tracks are winners, this is a Strictly Business selection for Herc's sake.
More to come soon from the Strictly Rock series, but for now rock away to this dope collection.
